About Us

We are a friendly, sociable group and aim to provide a relaxing painting environment in which members of all ages and abilities can enjoy and where members can paint, discuss, constructively criticise and help each other to get the best out of their chosen medium.

We have 2 exhibitions annually, in early May and early October where members are encouraged to exhibit their work.  We also encourage members to enter other exhibitions locally, i.e. the Beecroft Art Gallery and also the Central Library in Southend.

Two of our members specialise in miniatures, both Vicki Coppard and Geoffrey Child are very skilled in this area. Other members we are rightly proud of are Lynne Grech in gaining a B.A. and other members commended in national competitions.

During the year we have 3 or 4 demonstrations by recognised professional artists, where high attendance proves their popularity with visitors as well as members.

A Newsletter is also given out 4 times a year to keep members up to date with other events and outings.

New members in the past decade have added to the vast talents and accomplishments that already exist within the group, increasing the number of members to 43, some of whom have been with the group for over 20 years contributing to its huge popularity and current waiting list of three years or more.

Group history

Formed in September 1977 the Eastwood Brush and Palette meet once a week on Wednesday evenings at the Eastwood Memorial Hall.

Affiliated to the Southend Arts Council, members regularly exhibit their works in the annual “Visual Arts Exhibition”, held at the Southend Central Library, for which Pat Schwendener won the Bert Elven Cup awarded for Best Picture in 1997, Gina Warner in 2005 and 2008, and Anne Cribb, winner in 2006.

Customer testimonials

One of our regular exhibition visitors, Josie Hook, must be setting up her own gallery as she nearly always buys a number of pictures. In recognition of her purchases over the years, she has presented the group with a cup which will be presented for the first time this October.
